Martin Harrison is a management consultant and trainer who specialises in helping businesses to grow, develop, and improve their efficiency and profit, by concentrating on their leadership, management, competitiveness, customer service and on the processes that the business uses in its day to day operations. Typical projects are for small and medium sized businesses and include:
Business and Diagnostic Reviews. These assignments are typically for 2 days during which I carry out a full review of the business. By comparing the business results and processes to the industry models, I define the areas in which the business can be improved, for example competitive strategy, marketing, customer care or operational requirements.
Business Planning. The assignments are normally for 3 to 5 days during which I review with the owners / managers where the business wants to go. I then write the business plan, including financial details, marketing plan and cashflow, and discuss it with them in detail.
Feasibility Studies for new product development. These projects are normally for 2 or 3 days during which I go through the whole new product development process and help the business to produce a realistic fully costed development programme. It is important that the new product can meet real customer needs and that it can be sold at a profit. The study also includes the marketing, organisational and financial aspects.
Mentoring. The mentoring projects are normally for 15 days spread over a year. The purpose of the project is to help the business through a critical stage, for example growth or launching a new product. The process starts with reviewing where the business is and where it wants to get to. This is written as a detailed business plan which I then assist the owner manager to implement over the next 12 months.
Training and Workshops for middle and senior management. These training courses or workshops are written or adapted to meet the specific needs of the delegates and the organisation. Subjects include Strategic Reviews of Small Businesses, Project Management, Financial Awareness, Marketing and Customer Care. I also specialise in training for engineers and technical staff.
Quality Management Systems. I have assisted over 70 organisations to achieve ISO 9000 quality assurance registration mainly in the construction, professional services, and transport industries.
Martin Harrison MA, MBA, CEng, FIMechE has been a management consultant for over 20 years and has assisted over 500 businesses. After obtaining his degree from Cambridge University, he worked in petrochemical engineering design and construction in various countries and qualified as a Chartered Engineer in 1979. In 1987-89 he was the Group Manager with overall responsible for the MOD projects (value £55m) for Kennedy and Donkin. He became a founding partner of Quality Information in 1989.
